In this weeks interview series we have as a guest Marcin Kaczmarek the owner and creative director of Artentiko. This website/company is making use of their knowledge, experience, education and imagination in order to effectively build brands. They build them to look, mean, work but also make profit. They pay attention to details because they know it is them that often determine success. Below you will find some interesting and inspiring answers and statements.

 

1) What is your full name and where exactly do you live? 

My name is Marcin Kaczmarek. I live and work in Poznan – a nice & creative city in POLAND.

2) What is your occupation?
I graduated Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan with the Master’s Degree in Marketing and Management. Currently I’m Creative Director / Owner at Artentiko.

3) What are the top three things you like do when you have free time.
(Hobbies, interests, activities)?
Food. I find this part of live extremely important not only for satisfying physical needs, but also human’s mind&soul. In addition, food is INSPIRING. Shapes, colors, flavors, textures etc. Try to think of them as design elements – and you may get an extra dose of creativity. Incredible girlfriend with a cuisine passion might be helpful :)
Music. Altough this point refers not only to my free time – I can’t miss it. It is really something I could not live without. It’s with me when I’m working & when I have some time to relax. Everyday.
Sport. From time to time, I love to through out all my emotions and get really wet playing tennis with my friend. There is also a very important part of the year for me – winter. Every year – at least a week of total white freedom madness – snowboarding. I like swimming too, especially in a summer time.
Design books/magazines. I love visual stuff. Even when I’m resting. Browsing a well published book or magazine is a ‘free time pleasure’.

4) What inspired you when you were younger to pursue your career?
WORLD. Although I know it’s too general – it’s 100% true. Every single thing around us, has it’s name, shape, color, structure, form etc. and most of them have it’s brand. Just take a look around your room/flat/home. BRANDS. They live. Their names, their logos, their appearance. Isn’t it inspiring enough?

5) What are the two things you always have with you, on your desk, when you are working? (Beverages, Mobile Device) 
Two things? Definitely not enough for me :) But if I really have to pick two… paper notebook (yes I can’t live without traditional paper) and beverage. Iphone too, but in this case it may go in my pocket :)
6) Are you a Mac or PC user?
Mac. Always & probably forever.
7) What applications do you use the most? 
General – Mail, Chrome, Firefox, Adium, Skype, Itunes, Transmit. Design – Adobe CS5 (Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop), Fontcase.

8) Have you ever traveled? If so, where to?

I find traveling something enormously inspiring. I really can’t imagine a year without 2-3 flights abroad.Where? USA, Spain, Italy, England, Holland, Turkey, Tunisia, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic.

 

9) Here is a tough one, what inspires you? Is there a specific website that you browse? Do you go out for a walk?

I get inspired by everyday things. Brands, products, streets. I also visit some various cool websites with a great dose of extraordinary graphic designs from all around the world.

 

10) Show me your masterpiece (Website, Poster, Photograph)

To tell the truth… this question is much tougher than the previous one. Really. There are so many incredible designs – products… graphics….pictures…. it’s almost impossible for me to pick one. It is a great subject for a looong evening conversation accompanied  by passionate people and some refreshing drinks.

11) Are you a self lerner? Which skills have you  developed by yourself?

I’m 100% self lerner. All my graphic skills are nothing more than self practice.
