Michael Oswald style is best described as photo manipulation on steroids combining unique Photoshop techniques and digital painting. With the exception of the original digital photograph, his work is created entirely on a computer utilizing his knowledge of digital techniques and the traditional art skills he learned in his younger days.
Here are some useful and interesting FAQ from his website.
How long does it take you to create an image?
Typically in between 2 and 4 days. There have been occasions when I’ve been able to finish an image in only one day but I like to sleep on it for at least one night.
What programs do you use?
95% Photoshop, I rarely use other programs but I sometimes like to incorporate 3D into an image using 3Dmax or some nice brush textures using ArtRage.
Do you take the reference photos yourself?
These days, yes. I got my start using stock from various websites but I got tired of the copyright issues. Now, the photography portion of my work is the most enjoyable.
Where do you come up with your ideas/what inspires you?
Real life mostly, I consider the concept to the best part of my work so I put a lot of thought into it and I try not to hold back from expressing myself.
Where can I purchase a print of yours?
